MIAD Galleries

In addition to MIAD Gallery at The Ave, the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) is home to two nationally recognized museum galleries located in the college that are open to the public: the Brooks Stevens Gallery and the Frederick Layton Gallery. The mission of MIAD’s on-campus galleries is to support learning, cultivate conversation with the community, and demonstrate the cultural value of art and design. This mission is upheld through programming that reflects contemporary and historical trends in fine art and design, engagement of the college and community in issues of cultural construction and meaning, and fostering connections with creative professionals and institutions in the region for mutual support of programming and audience cultivation.

The Frederick Layton Gallery and Brooks Stevens Gallery feature six exhibitions reaching diverse audiences each year, as well as the annual MIAD Senior Exhibition. MIAD’s galleries support and welcome professional emerging and established artists, designers and curators at all stages of their career working in all types of media to propose exhibitions. Several auxiliary spaces on MIAD’s campus feature exhibition space for MIAD students.
